Seven Messages, One Main Thing

Repent! Who me?

Do you need to repent? If you’re human like I am, we all do. And if you can’t think of specifics, ask Jesus to show you what you need to surrender to Him. We might need to repent of obvious sins like stealing, cheating or lying. Or maybe it’s something we like to make excuses for – like being mean to a brother or sister or not obeying a parent or teacher. After all, they’re so annoying. Sometimes we need to repent of things that might not be “bad”, but they are keeping us away from spending time with God, praying and reading the Bible. Sometimes we need to repent because we have pride or selfishness in our hearts. Whatever it is, Jesus will help you recognize it and soften your heart to want to change – if you ask him.

A Prayer for Repentance

Not only can you pray for Jesus to forgive you for the things you know you’ve done wrong. You can also pray for him to show you what else you need to ask forgiveness for and to clean your heart and mind. Not with a washcloth, but with a new spirit and attitude. Try praying these prayers that David prayed.

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting. –Psalm 139:23-24

Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. –Psalm 51:10

You don’t have to wait until you feel forgiven. Jesus promises to forgive you when you repent and throw your sins into the deepest sea. He always keeps his word so you can count on it. He is waiting to give you a new fresh start everyday. Give it a try! Spend time praying to God every morning.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. – 1 John 1:9

I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake. 1 John 2:12

He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities [sins]. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. –Micah 7:19

I’m so glad Jesus forgives our sins and helps to make better decisions and have clean hearts. He is so awesome!
